TO 20 Serial Number

I was told that I purchased a TO 20 but the serial number plate from the steering column is almost unreadable. It is made of aluminum or some white metal alloy, Some of the numbers are readable but most are not complete. Where on the plate would I find the serial number? Possibly if I could zero in on a location I could get some idea of the year.

The numbers are in the middle of the plate. If you can't read them, you can still identify the tractor as a TO-20, or whatever, by other means. Look at the engine plate. Is it a Z120 engine? Is the oil filter inside the oil pan? If so, and if as I suspect by your name you are in the USA (Upper Pen. of Michigan), it likely is a TO 20.

Here is a TO30 plate. The TO20 plate will look the same. The number you want is the one at the very top that reads 'TO 102554'. If you can read yours, click on the 'Serial Numbers' link to the left on this page under Research & info to find the year.

The numbers will be stamped into the aluminum plate at the top center for a TO-20. The serial number will be <60,000.

Look at your shift cover plate and if it is one piece with the stearing column then look at the bottom of the id plate, as you may have a TE-20.

There are other ways to ID the model if not the year other than the SN.

Thanks Phil and Dan, Apparently people before me thought the numbers were in the middle or on top as they scratched with something in those two areas and the plate is scratched down. But between both of your information I should be able to figure out approximately what year and if it really is a TO 20. Most of the other things I have looked at lead me to beleive it is actually a TO 20, so a lttle more to verify and I will be set. Thanks Again.

To verify a TO-20 look at the left side of the engine it should have Z120 in raised letters cast into the side. Also look at the transmission shift cover plate. If it is a seperate piece from the steering column then it is a TO-20.

a Z-129 engine and a seperate shift lever plate would suggest a TO-30.

Mine says Z129A on the engine, and the serial number is TO-36495. Is that a TO30? The serial number isn't low enough according to the serial number reference/identification guide.

Thanks for everyone's help. The serial number is partially visible. It either says TO 312928 or TO 19285?? The 3 in the front and the 5 in the back are really just a guess, not sure if they are numbers or not. When the light hits it a different angles the mystery numbers look visible but not both at the same time. Either way if it starts with a 3 or a 1 it would make it a 50 or 51. The engine stamping shows a Z120-A, which again would verify a TO 20. I think I have enough to go on and again thanks for all the quick help

I have a H. Ferguson tractor with an engine number: Z129- 334644
Can you tell me where I can find addl. info about this tractor?
I believe it to be a 30.
It is in great condition.
I have kept it as an additional tractor.
Good luck with your tractor questions.
Thanks,
Dan
