TO-30 Carb Leaking Gas

Ok, I know the subject is not a great description of the problem. So here is what is going on. I just completed numerous repairs and restoration jobs on my TO-30. I had planned on swapping out a carter carb that is original on my tractor for a TSX carb but turns out someone configured that TSX for a ford and the bolt pattern is slightly narrower and they wont match up. So I put the old carb back on and went to start it up today and it fired up however after roughly 30 seconds gas started running out of the air intake part of the carb where the metal tube SHOULD run from the air cleaner into the carb and I say should be because my tractor was missing that part when I bought it and have been unable to find one. Some of the relavent repairs I did was a new intake/ exhaust manifold because the rear exhaust port was in bad shape and leaking and the other repair was a new gas line which unfortunately I had to go from 5/16" copper tubing to 1/4" tubing but that should not cause any issues. I was told I could drill out the mounting holes in the intake to allow for the slightly smaller bolt pattern but if I can fix this gas leaking problem easy enough then I dont really want to do that. I will appreciate any advise you can give me.

Sounds like your float is stuck or needs adjusting.

Actually I was just told that a couple hrs ago and to tap the float bowl with a brass drift or similar item and it will get the float un-stuck. This did work and I am not sure why it happened but it does work right now which is an extremely good thing considering the gas was leaking almost onto the hot exhaust pipe. Needless to say I am trying to work out some kinks.

The float arm on the float maybe twisted or the float pin worn, causing the float to rub on the fuel bowland hang. Until you can fix it correctly, close the tank valve when you shut down and when you want to use the tractor, open the valve and rap the carb.
