TO 30 fuel tank

This is my first tractor restore project and when I removed the fuel tank, noticed a large metal plate inside that is loose. I guess it"s a splash baffle but not sure. Any sure answers ?? Thanks, MJD

You are correct it is a baffle. Some have not worried anymore about it then others have said it makes noise all the time and is irritating. I would say as long as it is off now would be the time to fix it or if the inside looks bad think about another tank. Other original tanks may not be in any better shape than yours and I bought a reproduction tank and it must have been made in the land of almost right. After some extra work I made it fit. You could use JB weld or a similar product to try to make it stay in place.

The baffels were to keep fuel splash down, as you know. The tank will work fine with it loose. I hear Richard's suggestion on fixing, however, I do not know how you can through a 2" hole.


If someone has actually fixed the baffel please let me know... The only way I can think it could be done would include removing one end then replacing.

I have a TO30 that had the same problem. Rattled so much that something had to be done with it. After pondering solutions, I finally cut a flap on the back top end face and removed both loose baffles, bent the flap back down and welded it closed. Now a lot easier on the ears. Just make sure tank is washed out good before hand. Allan.
