to-30 rod knock

My brother's to-30 has a rod knock. Are there shims in the rod bearings on these engines? Thanks in advance.

My first car was a 49 Chev, rods had poured in bearing. I was knowned to put the cap in thte vice and lay a good metal file across the two faces, file off a few thousands and 'no more knock'.... of course that is not recommeded.
It worked and I never lost a rod.

Post the outcome please...
Thanks..

Had a Neighbour that never followed good practices....
After Connecting Rod exited through engine block...

No shims.

But if there is a failed rod bearing, bad enough to knock, the problem will be obvious once you get in there.

Chances are the bearing has spun in the rod, which will require the rod to come out and be reconditioned.

And the crank will be rough, out of round, and out of tolerance. It will need to come out and be evaluated and corrected.

Almost always a failed bearing is not the only problem, time to dismantle and go through the engine.

A shop manual will more than pay for itself in mistakes not made!
