TO-30 Voltage Regulator

I've had a 52 TO-30 (6 volt) for 15 years. Voltage regulators only last 2 - 3 years before the system stops charging. I've gotten the replacement VRs from various tractor parts suppliers with the same results. I have a separate ground wire from the VR Gnd terminal to the tractor so I know the VR has a good ground. Repolarization has no effect. The generator checks out OK (10 -12 amps out with the "F" terminal grounded). Also I've never jumped the tractor to start it. Has anyone had same problem with replacement VRs?

Hey Hal, where in Conn. R U? I'm 1/2 hour north of Hartford. I would guess- once every 2 or 3 years, something, a bump, high temp,? happens to cause a major short, if nothing is dodgy in your harness, I would bring the generator to a shop with some old timers in it.
