TO 35 3pt hitch

So first time tractor owner. I bought a late 50s TO35. The 3p hutch raises and holds its position (as long as i don?t have the clutch depressed). However when I put it in the full down position it doesn?t stay down. I can easily lift it up and down. Is this typical? It doesn?t seem like it would make much sense for it to free float like that. I thought the purpose of the draft control was to raise it when it hit a bump. So if it can be raised at any time, the only thing holding an implement down would be the weight of implement itself.

So is the tractor working as designed?

3pt hitch has no down pressure. The weight or design of your attachments do the work. Hydraulic up, gravity down. Even the big tractors are like that

Sounds like the position lower stop is not set right, the LOWER part of the quadrant is used to control drop speed, if lever is fully down, hitch WILL RAISE. Set the lower stop so the lever is near the FAST position and leave it there. Also, NEVER use the DRAFT control to RAISE the three point!! Draft is for plowing or other ground engaging tools. Best get an owners manual, it shows how it should work and how it's best used.

Yes that how it works, it has no power down.

If you have 2 stage clutch(live PTO) you only push clutch peddle half way down and lift will stay up. Push to bottom and it will ease down. If serial tag start's with SGM it's 2 stage--SGF it's single stage is one way to tell. Enjoy your tractor.

It?s definitely a single stage clutch. It does seem like it drops really fast. Like press the clutch, drops fully in like 10 seconds or less . Is that about right? And that?s with no load

That about normal with years of wear. Pump rings probably worn.

I would say it is. Where are you located? Have a friend in Indiana that repairs pumps. If you can do the work I would replace with new pump.Pumps are around $400.

I?m in Connecticut. Is it something I can repair or rebuild myself? Or is a new pump needed?

Thanks everyone for the help. I got the new pump installed and it works great! Will make brush hogging a lot easier. I ended up removing the pump filter and control lever to make it easier to jockey around in the case and not worry about bending anything.
