To-35 oil leak

Good morning all, got a bit of an
emergency here. I was installing a
swinging drawbar kit onto my to35 and as
I was tightening the last bolt, I heard a
loud pop. When I backed the bolt out to
check on things, the transmission oil
started pouring out!

Any idea what broke and how to fix it? Is
it safe to move the tractor or is there
something rattling around in there that
might break something?

It sounds like the bolt was a little longer than should be and you may have poked through the bottom of the rear case. I?m sure others will chime in on this too. I would drain the oil, if clear you could reuse it. Pull the right side cover off, the dipstick one and search for the broken piece. I think you can use silicone one the hole and reinstall the bolt and have a good seal. Refill oil and go back to work.

The proper fix is find another rear housing.
Pull off the side cover, fish out the busted part, clean area with brake clean, let dry, repair with Gray RTV at the least. Obtain shorter bolts, re-install toy, apply Permatex #2 to those bolts in order to stop any potential future seepage.
Throw away the oil unless you desire to recycle minor metal particles through the hyd pump.
Your choice.

you are not the first one to do that . drain oil pull side covers remove bigger parts then take a magnet and remove small parts

So it looks like I'm the proud owner of a brand new drain plug hole Haha. Thanks for the tips, I'm working the problem and I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't think you will be able to reach the broken pieces easily by removing a side cover. The bolt broke through in the differential housing so I would remove the PTO shaft to get the bits of metal out.

I found that same problem in the basket case I drug home last June. The broken part appeared to have gotten caught up in the differential and caused some major damage. I had to get get a whole new rear housing. Make sure you get ALL the loose pieces out
