Hello,
Can anyone possibly tell me why my TO 35 stops running after a short time running?
It starts and sounds fine, then after it warms up it begins to cough and sputter and then dies. Will not start again until cool.
Thanks for your help.

Start ir up and run it til it stops. When it does, imeediately( I mean right now!) get off and remove the center high tension lead from the distriibutor cap, hold it near a good ground and attempt a start. If you have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, your problem is not in the primary ignition ircuit. If you don"t, then you need to do some further checks of the primary ignition circuit (battery to key switch, through solenoid, if applicable, through coil to distributor.

If you have a 12V electrical system and do not have a 12V coil or have a 6V coil without a resistor. Your coil maybe overheating and shorting out ,killing the spark OR you could have a bad keyswitch.

If you do have the requisite FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, holding a suitable container under the carburetor, open the tank valve and remove the plug at the bottom of the carb fuel bowl. You should have a CONTINUOS flow of fuel into the container for as long as there is fuel in the tank. If the fuel dribbles out or is intermittent, you have a restriction in the fuel delivery. Check the screens in the tank valve above the sediment bowl and in the carb inlet fitting. If they are clear, make sure the cap vent hole is open. If that doesn"t cure it, rap the side of the carb witha wooden block in case the float is hung up. If that doesn"t cure it you"ll have to take the carb off and see why the fuel isn"t passing the float valve.

Hi Mary,

I agree with Jerry, either electrical or fuel problem. Had a similar issue with my TEA 20, would run for a while and then stop. Ended up being a fuel issue, blocked strainer on the fuel bowl inside the fuel tank. Took if off cleaned it out haven't had a problem since.
