Are there any other ways to tell the year of my TO-35 other than the serial # plate on the dash?--serial # on engine is gone, but lots of other numbers on trans, axles, etc. When I bought, I was told it was a 1955----it is a green belly with gray hood but the serial # plate reads SMG 17494T.That would make it a 1957, right? red and gray ???????

Go to this website. Under "Resources" you will find "Technical Tips." Then go to "Tractor Identification." Another article you will find valuable is "TO-35 Model Comparison."

far as i know 55's did NOT have letters preceding ser. no. i know mine does not. if it has a tractormeter it is most likely a delux model with two stage clutch and live hyd. someone may have attached a phony plate to the dash board. the ser no of mine is 153293. the model started at 140001.

1957 is correct if you have the numbers correct, don't know about the "T" tho. They did change to red and grey about that time but not all tractors in 1957 were those colours as they changed part way through the year so some would be red and grey and some would be green/grey. The only way to be sure is check the castings for the codes. Paint can be changed castings can't......John

There are casting date codes on the left side of the transmission case. Near the steering arm.

It'll read Letter-#-#...
i.e. C-23-6 = March 23rd 1956.

What does that say?

Jeff

Castings read K 6 5 on trans and K 5 5 on right rear axle. I"m guessing the serial # plate was changed. The plate is screwed on--no rivets. The tractor has been repainted, and I can find no evidence that the colors were changed.SO-- the tractor probably is a 1955----june 5,1955
