I don't know if I ever mentioned him, but old friends from New Zealand's dad was from Lancashire, he died yesterday, 90.
He was the first one I met who ever mentioned 'lit up like a Blackpool tram!'. Usually about the kids leaving lights on all around the house. He moved down under after the war, was in the RN on a floating dry dock in Africa, learned boilers, so got a good job with New Zealand Railways, which he retired from. We are soon becoming the 'new old timers'....
