TO20 carb question

I noticed gas leaking from my carb around the oil bath breather hose. Got any ideas what i need to do to fix it?

mine did that the last time i had it started.i figured it was the floats sticking a little bit.and by pecking on the carb would unstick them.but its been to cold i aint tryed it yet.

As Kevin says, most likely your carb float is sticking, causing the bowl to overflow and probably will make for hard starting. The usual first thing to try is to rap the carb with a block of wood or rubber mallet.

how hard is it to rebuild? since I am not using it right now it would be a good time to get it right.

Very easy. Shut off gas, remove fuel line to carb, remove rod from throttle and rod from governor and remove the two nuts holding it down. Cleaning and overhauling is simple really. Kits are about $30, availble on this site and lots of places. To clean it thoroughly you will need a can of carb cleaner with the attachable directional nozzle and a slim deep well 3/8 socket.

When you do the rebuild, don't forget to check the float height adj. Most rebuilds have a data sheet with them that describes this adjustment. If the float level is too high, you could leak fuel out of the air intake like you describe. Also, as I have stated earlier, make sure that the floats are straight so that they don't rub on the bowl when you reinstall. That one cost me a couple of hours in cold weather!!! mwferg

how do I know which carb I have on my Tractor?

I"m assuming you have a Marvel Schebler. It should have a brass plate stamped somewhere with the model, perhaps 361, or some such. The kits are not that different for the M-S carbs for the 20 and 30. If you have something other than a M-S carb, much of what I posted is not correct. Sometimes people do put aftermarket carbs on these tractors, or replace with a Carter, etc., and I am not that familiar with them. Hopefully that is not the case for you. The M-S carb is pretty much bulletproof unless you rap it too hard with a hammer and break the bowl or something like that. You should get a manual.
