I bought my first ferguson, a TO30, I realize this is a dumb question but, when the pto is running (on) and push the clutch in, the 3pt will not stay up but he arms will drop. If I raise the 3pt arms and quickly clutch and shut the pto off, relase the clutch the arms will stay up and not drop. Is this normal or is there a problem with the 3pt/pto? Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

There's a leak in the system. Likely the cylinder needs refreshed/replaced. Another possibility is the gasket for the hydraulic top cover. If you pull one of the round side covers off the case (where the PTO engagement lever is) you can likely observe the leak and plan your repair.

Notes:

Don't stick anything inside the inspection ports when the tractor is running.

Lift dropping after tractor is off is the plunger o-ring is worn out. For what I use my 35 for it's not a worry.

Get an overrunning clutch module for the PTO shaft if you are brush hogging. With no live PTO clutch like 35s have, a spinning brush hog will continue driving your 30 into fences/ditches, same problem the Ford N series has.

Get a PTO cover if you plan to only use the 3pt for snow blade etc tasks since the PTO spins when using 3pt.

YouTube channel Bundy Bears has many Ferguson repair videos. I used his MF60 trans rebuild when I rebuilt my TO-35.

I had another thought, the pressure relief valve. I had one go bad once and it caused issues similar to what you describe. The valve is screwed into the pump and accessible/replaceable from the side cover although removing the PTO shaft makes the job much easier. 'Look for turbulence' is what the trouble shooting guides say, but it's not as obvious as leaks from above.
