Restoring a TO30. It was 12v when I got it and elect. all work OK. I am putting it back to 6v. The starter that I have is 4.5 " dia & the frame (Black part) is 5.75 " long. It does not look like the ones I saw at NC Expo. They were smaller dia. & seemed longer did'nt measure). Also the starter I have just turns slowly w/ 6v applied. I am thinking that it is a 12v starter. There is no tag on it. Not sure what to do w/ it. Any advise? Thx. Ken B

It would seem that it is a 12volt starter from how you describe it. I am sure there are plenty on here that would do a swap with you for a 6 volt where they have converted to 12 volt and still using the old 6 volt starter. Often the voltage is stamped in the casing or there is a casting number that we may be able to tie up with a voltage for you. You could also have it rewound to 6 volts by your local auto-electrician.It could also have a fault on it, unless you know that it was OK starting on 12v..John
