TO35 Original Radiator

I have the original (I think) factory radiator that was on the '59 TO35 (gas engine). I replaced it with a Chinese aftermarket POJ.

It was seeping in a couple places, didn't have it checked, just assumed it wasn't worth fixing.

Should I hang on to it? I hate to just throw it away now that I see how poorly made the AM's are.

Anyone been there and done that?

Better keep the old one. Better rads made in other countries. I had a decent India, Turkey(?) rad. A bit funky fit, but it did work.

Last summer I got the cheapest radiator on ebay and put it on my MF35. I had to fidget with the fan shroud, but otherwise it fit fine and did not leak. I like it a lot better than the one that was on it, never could get that one clean no matter how I tried and it had several repairs on it.

I have a 1948 TE20 radiator that leaked and over heated took to radiator repair shop had it cleaned out and and leaks soldered. Works and looks like new cheaper than buying new junk. They don"t use brass like that no more.

I say China... Not really sure, should have sent it back.

I'd jury rig one thing, then discover another problem.

The upper neck didn't line up with the t. housing, bought a molded hose, still has a kink.

The shroud had to be bent to clear the lower hose neck.

The bottom brackets were soldered flat against the bottom tank, had to bend them out with a slide hammer, turn the heads down on the bolts to get them in.

The fan hit the shroud on the left side, more modification to the lower brackets.

The front axle hit the lower neck, had to machine a clearance notch on the end of the left axle beam.

So far it's not leaking, but it's only been on a couple weeks. That's why I hesitate to scrap the old one.

I have bought two replacement rads. in the last ten years. one from Ireland and the other from asia. both fit fine and work well. there are a few variations for the to-35 rad. out there.

my local radiator repair shop told me the radiator in my 1957 TO35 was far heavier build than a new one would be.

he fixed a couple of holes and told me I did not have to run it with the cap tight, he said to just leave it loose, it will cool fine and that does not put so much pressure on the system.

I think they only have a 7 psi cap if I remember correctly. But I did as he said, I just leave the cap loose and it has worked fine.

We just got a TO35 and found the rad cap seal all bent up. Se we ordered a new cap put it on and the rad started leaking threw a fixed soldered joint. no pressure before and then pressure found the weakest point. Should we fix and go back to now pressure or get a new rad?
