TO35 timing

Timing marks are no longer visible through flywheel peephole. How can I set the timing without timing marks. Tractor starts and runs, just want to get the timing right. Someone suggested setting it with a vacuum gauge, but where do I connect to vacuum port on a TO35?

On my MF202 I pulled the starter and this gives better access to the timing marks. I just put chalk on mine and then was able get the timing set.

When the tractor was given to us the clutch had broke and the fingers got wedged between the flywheel and engine block scouring the back side where the timing numbers were. The numbers are gone.

If you are worried the timing is off, I would find top dead center on number one piston then check/set the static timing to get it close. I would probably then punch mark the flywheel through the timing hole so I could easly find TDC again. Using a good flywheel as a guide, I would then punch additional markings up through at least 10 degrees then put a timing light on it at idle to see where its at.

Have someone post the number of teeth on the Ring Gear?
Do the math ...= degrees per tooth..
Set number ONE piston top dead center of compression stroke..
Turn engine over in opposite direction of normal running....
Count number of teeth that past by to equal Specifications of timing engine...

Bob..
