It reminds me of the guys i work with . Anymore i found there's two kinds of workers the kind that come to earn a paycheck and those that show up to get a paycheck. Unfortunately the workforce seems to be getting more of the kind that show up for a check

Mr. Lund you got that right. I see help wanted signs all over the place. Nearly every restaurant and retail store has that sign. Farmers say they can not find help and that is why they hire those people from South America. I guess that if your check from the welfare department is bigger that a paycheck then why work. It is time to rethink the phrase, "work for a living".

They won't even apply for factory jobs anymore. Factories around here are going begging. Some have taken to hiring foreigners.

I was talking to my supervisor the other day. I said that if they don't bring a pen to fill out the application, they should not even be considered! I was told that is unreasonable...! I said, why? Its not like the 'accidently' found themselves filling out an employment application, and if they cant think that far ahead, what good will they be! Seeing some of the recent hires, I must have been over ruled...!

You are absolutely right on the factory workers. Just talking to one of my renters yesterday. She is fluent in 4 languages. She works as a translator and trainer at a kettle korn factory we have here in NO. Mankato. She said more then half the workers cannot speak English. She likes her job but is being recruited by Verizon call center. They really need her skills there and every week they call her and sweeten the compensation package. She thinks soon she may change as she doesn't know how many more times that door will open.

That's a second sad fact so many times I've seen good workers or older ones pushed to do more and eventually they hit the door. Where i worked at the one in charge of shipping over thirty years of experience switched jobs and things did not get better.

Around here,they're being worked half to death working overtime because they can't hire enough help. I don't know what's gonna happen when we make America great again.

I know what you mean. He deems himself the jobs creator but we have to many jobs already that we can't fill.

I was told once that if a factory has to have a help wanted sign its means something is wrong. If you watch there are places that don't ask for help and have good workers. But unfortunately you are right a lot of factories are looking for help because of working conditions cheese factories and dairies are big ones it was hard for me to figure out and all farmers will say so what but a lot of people will turn down a job because they have to work the weekend if it wasn't for that they could get help unfortunately cows got to be milked. Also the day of good leadership is gone in some of the poorer factories leadership has risen not by merit but the ability to say yes at the right time and knowing how to blame someone else for your problems I'm just glad i only do it part-time anymore.
The scary thing to me when people don't want to work the weekend whats going to happen at nursing homes and hospitals ?

I have to call BS on that one. The only things wrong is,we've got a generation for whatever reason,maybe it's their parents telling them "You're not doing that kind of work",maybe it's a bunch of Bertha better'n yous who just believe they're too good for factory work,I don't know. Both,I firmly believe. Federal Mogul personnel department says they have ten jobs available for every qualified applicant they get anymore. When the refrigerator factory closed,they said it was the opposite. They had ten applicants for every available job. That was 15 years ago. Things have changed.
Denso Corporation is hiring Burmese because they are expanding and putting on workers faster than people are applying.
It's just plain laziness and a privileged attitude.

I have a cousin that runs a small factory. About 50 employees. She says the biggest challenge is to get people who can pass the drug test. And she says age has nothing to do with it - it's across the board - in our little rural community. I find myself doing the Charlie Brown "Good grief!" quite often any more.

Have you ever heard the saying the third generation looses the farm ? Business also goes through those phases . I've worked at start up business , family run business and old established business .Good examples of what I'm talking about is kwik trip ,thiesens and culvers the original owners are still involved in the business and i think they try and hire people with the same work ethic and most of these businesses reflect that on the other hand and where i work now reflects that the management is has never been near the people or the actual work flow they get there information of paper . when they do that the don't see what value the work ethic is and basically depend on a recruiter to get staff his only motive is to supply bodies and i have seen several temp agencies that will encourage a high turnover simply because its profitable to them.
Where i work upper management who never were around trucks being unloaded simply decided the fastest way to get the trucks unloaded at the lowest cost was simply speed up the line .Now any farmer that handled small square bales on an elevator can tell you whats going to happen when you open the throttle on the tractor and thats exactly what happened boxes rolling over coming in on the line to fast and even loading is no fun more than a few got hurt but the line stays fast because the piece of paper says it will work. End result good people that are willing to work leave replaced by people that are very unreliable personal. Watch undercover boss . Yes there's a lot of lazy people out there but where i once worked at and it was family owned i seen a guy coming in and told the boss he might be trouble he was hired on and the first sign of trouble the boss pulled him aside and gave him a good talking to he turned into one of the better workers .

Randy, Maybe you should wait and see what happens. You don't know what will happen when you use a new bull in the heard until the calves are borne do you???? And then you have to wait and see what they turn into. Hope you get my point.

You say that like we have a choice. With all due respect,you sound just like the followers of the last leader,8 years ago. If you even brought up a particular issue where you had a disagreement with him,they would shout you down with "Give him a chance" or "How long has he been in office?". If there are legitimate issues,such as this one concerning the fact that we're already at full employment and the fact that you can't get enough people to do the manufacturing jobs that are going begging now,why can't we discuss that? I was tired of getting shouted down 8 years ago,and I'm getting a little tired of it again. If there are issues,I'm going to talk about them. I'm not attacking the guy personally,although that would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

This conversation has gone right off the rails. You can't compare these large multi national manufacturing companies to third generation farmers.
If you want to talk generations,yes,that's exactly what's wrong. We have a generation that's never known manufacturing as a career. They weren't around when you would graduate high school,get a factory job,get married,buy a house,two new cars,a travel trailer and a boat and live a good life. It's totally foreign to them and unless you're gonna send half the population of this country off to "get your mind right camp" and teach them that those jobs are out there and that there's no social stigma to having one,bringing those jobs back here will fall flat on its face.

How about 40 hrs at minimum wage to get that check? You would think then some would want to better themselves and go get a higher paying job if they were required to work 40 hrs either way.

I'm telling you what,all we can do is what Loren said and see what happens,but if it ever comes the day that we have to depend on a bunch of lazy,self centered,self absorbed,soft bellied Americans to harvest and process all the food we eat and manufacture all the products we use every day,we'll all be dead in a week. I'm telling this to every American and every citizen of other countries who are reading this,all that way too many Americans care about anymore is being entertained,taking their drug of choice and their "s3xual identity". It's the end of the Roman Empire here. Food and circuses. Keep them fed and entertained and they won't know how close to the end we are.

I was raised by a pack of depression era germans there was only two reasons not to work sleeping and church. Before you got to go to church you did your chores. I can remember you basically stayed on your feet no matter what i still get a kick out the looks you get when you tell someone you went 15 years and never missed chores . The tried to hire me full time being what my work ethic was . one place i worked the boss was complaining about the extra workers he had for a Saturday shift i told him i had work at home to do he said you show others are questionable see you Saturday.

My brother-in-law is from a German background in the depression years. Never had any urge to work side-by-side with him though, and it wouldn't be because of his work ethic ..... ha!

This is a lot of feedback for what started off as today's funny. rrlund, as mean as you're being to all us lazy Americans, the bottom line is you're right. Some of the people we get in at the foundry, I'm thinking, is this the best we could do? Most times ya get, he's related to someone, he passed the drug test or he's got experience, but most times, it's the best we could do. I'm one of the oldest guys there, most days don't feel like I done enough to earn my wage, but still out worked a lot of em. We do get some young guys that are glad to have a job and it shows by their work ethic, so there is some hope for the future.
