Doing a brake job A caliper bolt head had rusted to the point that the correct metric wrench found nothing to work against. A 5/8" box could be pounded on to it. The craftsman wrench withstood blows with a 2# hard rubber mallet. I thought it moved (or twisted) PB was already on it from both sides. I smacked it CW and the wrench moved again. Repeat this 25 times (to save the spindle). After it was moving 20 degrees, I began taking it farther and farther CCW. I got it out!! 1.5 hours later. Woofer it was a edge of the limit. Jim

In addition to the "makes me want to puke feeling" there is the realization that what it means if one can't get it out.

The young guy who works in the bay next to me was having some problems reinstalling a sway bar link. I was busy and it was probably an hour and a half before I was able to give him a hand. He was trying to tighten the nut. It went on 3/4 of the way and stopped. Thing was, he never tried to back it off. I brought the tools I'm used to using, got the nut back off, chased the threads of the stud with a die, found a good nut in my bolt box and had him up and running in about 10 minutes. It probably irked him that he spent hours on it and I got it fixed in a few minutes, but now he knows what to do next time. He doesn't have a lot of experience and I'm always willing to help out someone that is willing to learn.
