Toggle Switch

Several people here have mentioned replacing the keyed starter switch with a marine grade, 25 amp, toggle switch.

I have looked all over auto parts and boat stores in this area and cannot find one.

Where can I get one?

Thanks,

Roy

PLEASE be safe and don't do that. These tractors were WAY ahead of their time in safety by having a keyed ignition switch and neutral-safety start switch.

Even if you think the tractor is in a secure location, SOMEDAY a kid (or BLEM) will fiddle with it and you will wish you had kept the keyed switch and pulled the key.

There's lots of good HD keyed ignition switches available from NAPA, or places that sell Standard Ignition, Niehoff, or Borg warner, to name a few.

Ray.......because I am a retired Electronics Engr, I speak electric. I bought a 25-amp marine grade (waterproof) toggle switch. Because I know the OEM key operated ignition switch is underrated. And is NOT waterproof and internally burns the contacts because of insufficient ampacity.

By their very construction, most keyswitches are NOT WATERPROOF unless you go to a marine dealer. That is why I keeps saying "marine grade".

Buy enny SPST (that means 2-terminals) switch of sufficient ampacity that will fit. You can gitt push-pull, toggle, key-operated switched but READ THE LABEL for AMPS. (look) Ennythang over 10-amps is probably good as long as it is WATERPROOF. Most common hardware store toggle switch displays are NOT WATERPROOF and usually 3-amps.

Do I make myself clear???......respectfully, Dell

Try West Marine's website. They have nice heavy duty brass weather tite ignition switch that would work fine on a tractor.

Bob,

I can appreciate your concern about safety, if I had small children around. As far as security, I leave the key in it all the time. If I take it out, then I'll lose it.

Anyone wanting to steal it is welcome to try, if they can get by the pit bull. But, I am 72 years old and and no youngsters around.

I guess I'm tired of plastic bags I can't get into, prescription bottles with locked on caps, lawn mowers that I have to hold onto a bar while I try to pull start it with the other hand, or mowers that I can't get off the seat without the engine shutting down. And tractors that I have to hunt the key before I can start it.

Before I restored it, I just had the starter wire hanging down and I touched it to ground, so I've come a long way.

I'm not picking on you, just airing some of an old man's pet peeves.

A BIG 10-4 on that! Me 2! It is really BAD when SAFETY gets in the WAY of utility! Everytime I get a new lawnmower, I IMMEDIATELY hunt down & disable the "Safety Switches". And I have neato ways of defeating the "child-proof" bottles, because the ONLY ones who can break into them are KIDS!! I leave the KEY in MY tractor 24-7 & have had NO PROBLEMS! If the "authorities" would Concentr8 on BUSTING CRIMINALS, instead of hassling us 4 minor offenses, we'd all be better off! When it comes 2 MODERN PACKAGING..it is extremely hard 2 get into simple household/kitchen items! A PAIR OF SCISSORS is NECESSARY in the kitches 2 defeat them sealed 4 eternity packages that everything comes in nowadays! "Blister Packs" are EVIL & should be outlawed! GRRRRRRR!! Maybe President McCain will do something 2 help us, since he is already OLD! ;-) CC

CC; we're just getting old, and cantankerous.
Used to be we could set up the old tractor lift and not worry about the dam thing fallin' on us. We always had brains enough, not to get under it. Right????
Todays youth.........??????? Now that is another subject!!!!!
