First Bruce, I have no Oil Analysis. I just have a fine running 43 2N ----your grasping at straws now. So again I ask, what oil was used in the 1939,40,41,42,43,and 44 Ford N series tractors. Tip 76 when lost for answers be like NASA-- Never A Straight Answer.

I answered your question.
And I also explained that [b:97e7eaa98d][u:97e7eaa98d]TODAY's[/u:97e7eaa98d][/b:97e7eaa98d] non-detergent "engine" oils ARE NOT actually formulated for use in automobile engines. [b:97e7eaa98d]There is no actual market for a non-detergent engine oil[/b:97e7eaa98d] so they are formulated for use in air compressors and hydraulic systems. The Valvoline label for example is pretty clear on what application it is actually made for and what performance specifications it is tested against. Hint - they aint engine oil specifications..
Can these air compressor/hydraulic oil formulations be used in an N engine - sure. You could even try a little universal tractor transmission or gear oil - the old L-head will tolerate a lot.
But why do any of that when you can use any of the thousands of engine oils that are actually formulated for use in internal combustion engines and infinetely better for the old tractor?
