Would Tamarack be a good handle material for a wheel barrow?

I'm waiting on a shipment of Tennessee hickory to make some handles.

I experimented with a half inch round over bit.

May use a 3/4 inch round over bit if I get actual 2x4 ruff sawn hickory. RIP it into 2x2s.

If it's good and dry and you can get a good finish on it. We used quite a bit of Tammarack and much of it had a lot of tiny knots. I never used it for finish work, but it's worth a try. It's tougher/stronger IMO than White Pine or Spruce. But, for handles I'd lean a lot more towards a hardwood like ash, hickory or ironwood.

I turned the end of the handle in a lathe. I am very disappointed with the surface finish. I am going to allow them to dry for a few days and then I might paint them black to see if I can improve the finish .
