Tool to help adjust tension on Alternator

I am having some problems adjusting the belt on the alternator on my 2N. I suppose most people just use a pry bar and situate it where they can adjust the position. Years ago I saw a tool that fits in on the alternator that allows some safe leverage to adjust the position. Seems it was a simple tool, with a small rod that fit inside one of the holes on the alternator and another rod lower that helps provide the leverage. Anyways, I am looking for some sort of tool that will work better than my pry bar. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Thank you in advance.

Is that basically an oil filter strap type wrench? I have the GM 12 volt alternator, so I am not sure if that will wrap around it.

Is it an Alternator or a generator? I have a tool that is a big hook that a ratchet handle or breaker bar goes on that can hook and pull an alternator that I used on autos. Many times I would use a large channellock pliers from the alt. ear or the bolt to the bracket. On a tractor the belt doesn't need to be as tight as a car as the load is pretty light on the alternator with no accessories.

It's an alternator. I think it's GM10Si

The belts on these tractors do not need to be that tight. Just tight enough to prevent slipping. Can easily be achieved without prybars or special tools.

If your problem is that it keeps loosening up, be sure you have all the appropriate parts to keep it in tension.

See Tim's post in the following thread

And notice the slot in the rear bracket here There is a small arm (not in pic) that holds this tight.

On an Alternator, the top arm should hold it tight

(quoted from post at 20:13:13 03/12/22) Here is one example

this is similar to what I am looking for. The one I saw looked like a breaker bar. Something like this looks like it would work fine, but I don't think they make this item anymore. Might can find it used.

The belt doesn't need to be very tight. I use a large Channel lock pleir. Snug up the bolts. Then put the Channel lock on the top bracket. One jaw on the end of
the belt tightener and the other jaw on the alternator top mount. Just squeeze the handles slightly and tighten the top bolt.

This is what I've been using for probably 60 years now. I think I ordered it from J.C. Whitney. That will date me. :)

Tight belt is just past being able to turn the alt by hand and having it slip on the belt.
Overly tight means replacing water pump and alternator for premature bearing failure.

-belt on these old tractors, I'm with you........I never tighten beyond what I can do with the hand at the end of my arm.

(quoted from post at 13:46:00 03/13/22) Come on JMOR,
You know you need a tool like rvirgil_KS
posted a photo of below and the proper
torque setting to tighten it.
es, and probably need a radiator cap removal tool, too.. Maybe gas cap tool?
