Topdressing corn

Has anyone on here ever dribbled some leftover liquid starter on there corn? I have some left over 7-24-2 liquid from planting and was thinking of just Y dropping it or dribbling it down the center of my 30" rows. Is it worth the time? Would it do more harm than good?

Yes might as well use it up. We throw it in the side dresser with the 32. This is shot in behind a trench but we have dribbled a bit down the sweet corn rows before with no trouble just keep it off the young plant. And a big plant we have had a line blow before burn 2 rows pretty bad soaking it and it will come out of it though it looks like heck for a month and you won’t get any fertilizer benefit. I certainly don’t think you have will hurt anything.

Up here it’s a bit early yet but we have started side dressing the first 2 fields because of the rain we don’t think we will get a chance otherwise.

We create something like that for side dressing with smaller amount of 10-34-0 starter mixed with 32-0-0 although I admit the k comes from dry in the fall.

I spread granular 31.5-0-10.9 4.3S before planting in conjunction with the 7-24-2 starter and I have never top-dressed or sidedressed so I'm new to this. If I just rig up some 1/2" rubber hose drops on my teejet bodies and dribble down the rows, what GPA would I approx shoot for with this 7-24-2? I in turn would need to find some compatible orifices to stick in those nozzle bodies to obtain that approx. GPA. If it helps I put on 8.4 gal/ac in the furrow when planting.

what was the rate of granular? corn on corn? just out of curiosity what was the name of the product was it a blend from a coop with urea and....?

150 units of N is what to shoot for total over the year in corn after soybeans. 200 in corn on corn.

The 200 is a hard number makes very little sense to go over that. anything more won't help. 160 to 170 can be justifiable in a wet year like we have here in corn after beans.

.7 per gallon is what that product you have applied would have I wouldn't buy any more of it this time of year. You only got about 6 units out of that starter but you got it to pop up quick I'm sure and the other nutrients are what you are really after with that is sulphur which should be the 4th number. But it really depends on how many lbs of n you have down already.

if you add 32 percent its 3.2 units per gallon.

555 lbs/ an acre, corn on corn, here is the formula off the shipping papers..

so that dry blend looks pretty good as far as nitrogen goes! so you are at 181 units if you are counting your starter.
which would mean 27 GPA of the product you have left per acre would get you to your n about which is fairly high for side dressing but not unheard of rate wise.
You have some other options.
You would need only 6 gallons per acre 32. Thats fairly low and difficult for our sprayer at least to apply at a speed most would consider sane. How many gallons do you have left vs how many acres you have?
I myself would probably take what you have to get to bump that 32 rate up to something that we normally spray at. We often will do 10 15 GPA or 20 even if we have to add some water.
