With the hot weather here on the West Coast I have seen people already not wearing shirts. Men so far. I never go shirtless, and never will. How many of you go remove your shirts in the summer? Stan

Unless I am swimming, never. Somewhere along the line, all my hair left my head, migrating south. I look like a silver back gorilla without my shirt.

I never went to town shirtless but use to bale hay and cultivate corn and bean with no shirt. At the end of a day cultivating you could see skin because from sweating I was cover in dust.

I find I'm cooler in the hot Texas sun if I wear a light colored long sleeve 100% cotton shirt. Also good for stopping a lot of UV exposure.

My wife has made several very light weight, white long sleeve shirts that I wear in the sun. I wear a wide brim straw hat. But mostly I am in a cab for any length of time in the hot sun. My father and cousin, both life long farmers, who wore caps, had a little spot of cancer taken off the temple area.

Never. I even wear a T-shirt to the water park. I've been sun burned way too bad to go without a shirt anymore.

Use to a lot when I was young. Looked cool. Now, after a few episodes of skin cancer I take a little better care of myself. Bob

Rarely do I go topless unless I am on vacation. Something that does cross my mind is what I wear to tractor shows. I tend to wear shorts, tank top and generally have on flip flops. I don't show tractors or pull, so I see no need to wear work boots, long jeans and work shirt. Yet I seem to be the minority. Sometimes I feel downright foolish but, having once spent a long weekend recovering from heat exhaustion, I am not about to dress like the others and walk around in the hot sun all day looking at tractors. Most days I barely make it as it is. Always wondered how the rest could stand to be out there in the sun dressed like that.

T shirt keeps the sun and bugs off. If I am hanging out on the lawn though and there are no bugs I find a spot in the shade and take everything off. Well sometimes a few minutes in the sun if it is cool.

In the summer I wear a gray T shirt but never with out one. Ya I may pull it off to shake it out if I have been doing hay or some such thing that can be dusty

Like others, never. I feel cooler with a shirt on. Mostly wear jeans, boots as well. I wouldn't think of walking through a field or running a tractor or ANY kind of machinery without shirt/jeans/boots.

haven't had my shirt off outdoors for 30 years or more. I been in the sun too much already. I usually tan right through the shirt. you can see the outline of the western shirt yoke on my shoulders and where it is doubled over in the front for the snaps I have a whiter mark than the rest of me.

This was blue light treatment for Melanoma, so the answer is long sleeve shirt, wide brim hat, sun screen. Never leave the house with out them.

I need a half gallon of sunscreen any time my shirt is off. Had a sunburn so bad once the blister were 2 inch's tall. Never again.

Only very rarely for very short time do I go shirtless maybe a whole 1 round in the field, and there are requested to put it back on of course.....

Mostly I wear a cap and a long sleeved shirt all summer long. Early on I seemed to burn my arms pretty bad, and I'm not good at doing sun screen all the time, so even in high school age I just started wearing long sleeves.

I go to the gym but not slim enough to be showing any naked upper bod. I am not a fan of shorts either . Shorts would be a bathing suit or long pants. I'm a red so I burn up.

37chief,

As soon as the weather turns warm, I exceedingly embarrass anyone who dares look. Shirtless, but mostly sunscreened, and usually whiter than rice.

Not me, at least if I'm working. For work its t shirt, jeans, and steel toes. My shirt is like my pants and cap, work is not a reason for it to come off.....

Me too, especially since most of my outdoor work requires protection from the elements, insects, and farm products (square bales, etc.)

I used to have an uncle who always wore bib overalls, long sleeve chambray shirt and a sweater year around. I mean always, inside or outside. Me I always wear at least a T shirt and shorts. sometimes cut the sleeves off the shirt.

Well, I'm 'solar powered', around here those days are sorta limited by many overcast/rainy days. I like to get an overall tan, take my time and limit exposure to the evil rays. Think what you will. ;^)

Topless in bibs. Tim Smith on Moonshiners does it all the time, even on a business trip to Poland. I think it is tacky as hell but he landed a big order for his white lightning. Guess it works for him.

My Grand Father was like that too,, he would say what keeps the cold out will keep the heat out,, I never agreed with that..

I always went with out a shirt when I was a kid. I'd sun burn three times in the Spring, then I was good to go. Now I'm paying for it. I had melanoma removed from my back a few years ago, and today I had it removed from the top of my nose. The last few years I been wearing a hat. Too little to late, I guess.

Most of my skin has not seen the sun in years. As a pale skinned "whitey" I found out as a kid just how painful sunburn could be. I remember my legs being burned so bad after a field day at school (shorts were mandatory apparel) that I had a hard time walking for a few days while recovering from the burn. Coveralls and long sleeved shirts year round for me for years now. Seriously we just don't seem to get the heat in summer anymore like we did when I was a kid. I can't remember a summer day in recent times when it felt hot enough to take my shirt off. Even if I did that I'd still have a tee shirt underneath it.

Never. I'm a fair skinned Skandinavian who gets sick from the sun. If I am going to be in the hot sun all day I will sometimes wear a long sleeved shirt.

I find a white cotton T-shirt and faded long jeans is the coolest. I live in the sun all summer as I bale about 13,000 squares.

IMHO T-shirts are one of the hottest things you can wear, they cling to you and not enough air gets through. I buy short sleeve denim shirts and cut the sleeves out. My shoulders don't burn because they're covered and my arms get tan gradually because the sun shines on them at an angle. Coolest thing I've ever found to wear. I never go without a shirt either.

when I was a teen in the 70s ,, yes ,,..rarely do I ever go without a shirt these days ,.,/my skin has getting delicate over the yrs

I am somewhat fair skinned but will tan after a few burns so I keep a shirt on, other than that I am too fat and ugly to take my shirt off.

The young farmer today don't know what it like setting on an old open station tractor cultivating corn or beans out in the hot sun all day.

13,000?!?!?!

You do know they make round balers now? been that way for about 40 years now.

Never. It would stampede the livestock. And I get enough basal cell carcinomas cut off my face and head that I sure don't want to expand the playing field.

Like many have said, I used to take my shirt off all the time, I don't burn very easy, but a neighbor and my cousin had/have skin cancer badly, so not much anymore.

never tried it - I'm always haying and I can't imagine how uncomfortable that'd get being all sweaty without a shirt on.

kinda like being tarred and feathered I'd imagine.

There is no money in round bales here. We do over 10,000
squares by hand too.

Used to go shirtless as a teen, hoping the girls would drop by
lol. Only go shirtless in the mow of the dairy barn now
because I don't like heat stroke. Outdoors I like old very light
white dress shirts, the really thin fancy ones. Friend of mine
got me started on them, get them at Salvation Army etc for
cheap. Much better than t shirts

In Ontario it's legal for women to go topless . Usually Middle Aged and senior women of European origins . Quebec is similar to France, they have been for decades .

I've heard of them. I do about 150 rounds. It's easier to sell 13,000 squares than 150 rounds here in s.w.Pa.
