I always back off my regulators, but won't that 2000 psi still hit the regulator diaphragm regardless of how the regulator is adjusted?

I TRY to slowly crack the O2 valve, but I don't think it makes much difference.
SLOWLY open tanks. AND never ever stand in front of regulators when opening. Rare but there have been cases where adjusting screw blew out upon opening. Yes it is 2000 lbs when full but can make a big difference by opening slow. Slight crack on valve and let pressure come up then open. Same with a MiG or tig set or any welder with gas set up. That is how I taught my students and if I saw them do it any other way they were explained again how to do it. In 30 ish years with high school students I can remember only 2 regulators we had rebuilt. ALWAYS bleed/purge system on shutdown so there is no pressure on regulators. Then back adjusting screw out to a loose point.
