Torque wrench

Believe it or not...I don't own one. Have a couple of fixes staring me in the eye that require me to torque nuts down. 150 foot pounds on this leaking pin on my 3 pt. Been looking in the Sears catalog and they have a middle of the road model for less than $100 and, of course, higher end "professional" models. I do more and more tractor repairs these days but will not have even a weekly use for this tool so I am thinking the lesser model would be OK? Don't know diddly about these...any recommendations?

I would get a click type, much easier to use. middle of the road type should work fine for you. I used snap-on torque for years, but they had to be recalribated every year. (FAA rules)

You may not use the wrench very often, but don't you need it to be accurate when you do use it, do your self a favor and get as good a tool as you can and use it forever. Cheap tools are just that, cheap.

Borrow or rent a good torque wrench. If you only occassionally need one, see if a mechanic friend has one.

Torque specs are important and given for good reason.

I just checked craigslist locally and found many quality ones for sale.

Just got back from a visit to Sears.com and that "middle of the road" wrench had 45 different people rate it...almost all of them bad and ALL of those related to one part which broke. Sears did not carry the part and the warranty is only one year. Currently looking at the $200 professional model. Checked out Snap-On but I could never look the family in the eye with a $400 wrench in the box. Times are too hard hereabouts. Heading to Craigslist now.

If you aren't to far from a prinsess auto auto store I picked up there 1/2" drive one on sale for $19.95 on sale. Same wrench at other stores $99.95.

Northern Tool & Equipment has several models / price points. Their own brand in smaller click type are popular & rated pretty well. SK 50-250 lbs for $99.

A couple of years ago I picked up 2 Craftsman bar type wrenches off flea bay. I think my combined expense was under $40 for both, and they are both in good shape. I think I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of the clicker style.
