torqueing bolts

I don't have a heated garage, so I was wondering how much difference it makes between toqueing bolts when it's 70 degrees versus 40 degrees. (also preloading bearings etc.) I would assume that I should throw a heater in there and get it as close to 70 degrees as possible 65 even. What do you guys think?

I have always done it just like micrometer measuring, make sure all fasteners and tools are at the same temperature and go for it. I always run thru the bottom end three times before moving on. Might not be book right but have built 40+ and no problems, yet. Knocking on wood right now! HTH. Fred

Careful attention to methods and uniform preparation is more important by far, than temp. I would let five minutes go by between patterning the bolts with the wrench.
Unless preload is determined by a rotational force value on the bearing (turning the shaft, etc) there is no difference in preload settings. JimN
