Touch a magic

Got a 1952 John Deere M. Hydraulic is real jerky and I have to throttle up high to get it to lift. Also blows fluid out The breather cap. Any suggestions?

My guess is it is over full possibly. There is a drain cock on the back below the seat. Open it and see if you get any fluid out. Any idea what is in there for fluid?

The detergent oil will collect moisture and turn a milky color, but the hydrulics don't get hot enough to boil it out. Use a non detergent oil such as 10, 20, or 30 weight.
There should be a 3/8" pipe plug on the back of the unit, drain the oil and refill. Fill with oil until it comes out of the brass drain cock. Should be around 3.5 quarts.

I agree. Sounds more like a suction leak. Those pipes can leak at the connections too. A suction pipe leak won't always drip oil either.
