Toyota forklift

This is a long story that I'm going to make as short as possible. My Toyota forklift (with a 4y motor) was smoking, hard to start, there was a lot of blow by coming out of the valve cover and seemed to not have any power. I had a local forklift mechanic come and he found two cylinders with very low compression. So we replaced the motor. Now it runs fine standing still but when it's driving and meets a hill or slightly soft ground and I give it more gas it just bogs down. The mechanics are very experienced, I trust they have the motor tuned properly. I should mention here that the mechanics never saw this machine move. I had had enough problems with it that it was in the shop when they arrived and never left. I never told them about that aspect of the problem because I thought it was related to the bad motor.
They have subsequently diagnosed it with another problem that they think it may have also had, they think it may have a bad torque converter. Before I have them take the motor out again I was wondering if I could get another option.

Saw one bad converter in a Cat forklift. It would run and drive but the instant it came on the slightest incline it just stopped.

We have one at work that will barely pull a hill without a load. Fork lift company says it needs a motor. No it doesn’t. They just want to sell a new one for more than the first two houses cost together

If the engine revs well, but the travel speed slows or stops, the converter, or clutch (if it has one)are likely the issue. Jim
I agree with Jim, if the engine come up in rpms
or revs as Jim called it, a bad torque converter is likely the problem. I suspect if mechanics diagnosed it then they surely looked that the fluid level was correct. Transmission clutch packs slipping could also do this.
