where do i look to find the serial number on my tractor, i beleive it may be a 1956 wd-45 but i don't know for sure, i found some numbers stamped on a bolted on plate just beside where your right foot would rest (trans case?)

If it's a WD or WD45 it will be on the back of the rearend, on the left side, a few inches down from the brake insp. cover. The # is hand stamped into the flat spot and will start with WD######. If the # is 146607 or higher it is a WD45, if it's lower, it's a WD. But that's just the tractor, the motor may be different.

Standing behind the tractor it is located on top of rear housing. They are a plate with a bolt in each end. The serial is located just below the left side one.
