I have an antique tractor that i plan on using locally. Is there some type of insurance i should get to drive it on the public roads? Keep in mind i rent so i cant cover it under homeowners.

You might be able to get it as a rider on your renters insurance. At the very least you need liability and you may want casualty (fire, theft, etc). I'd check with the agent of your renters ins or your local Farm Bureau agent. A lot depends on what you are using it for and what state you are in. Liability protects you, my agent suggested the best amount of liability to have is enough to cover all you have and all you ever plan to have.

It is going to depend on what you mean by "using locally" and you’re going to have to talk to your insurance co to find out. Most homeowner policies will cover it if it is being used as a "lawn mower" at the time of loss. Just driving down the road, no coverage. Mine is covered no matter what I am doing with it under a farm policy. And do not skimp on the details with the insurance co. If you tell them just mowing grass and have an accident pulling a hay wagon ride (free or fee) they may not cover you.

homeowners is everything you have so get with your agent it sure should be covered or find an agent who can they are out there
