Came across this tractor jack video on that there interweb stuff - first time I've ever seen one in operation. Amazing!

I wonder how many jacks are out there in use or if anyone has made a replica.

I have one and used it on my 39 Ford ferguson in the 40s and 50s on our 8N. The cvideo is lacking o "Dogchain", that goes between the back and front halfs, and when the tractor rocks forwards, it raises the front. The only trouble with the jack that it should take 2 people, one 10 years old to wrisal a "loaded 10-28, with 250# wheel weights" and somebody to control the hydraulic lever. Each time you thought you had it right to slip on the back axle bolts, you had to turn the brake drum, as the tractor "rocked forward" each time you moved the Hydraulic lever. and nothing lined up. Looks nice on video however, but that just "Looks at the good ole days"
Charlie been there when dad went to town and said "take care of the farm as all your brothers are overseas, and I got to go to town to feed you youngsters".

RN:

The Ford/Ferguson tractor jack is not uncommon.

I've one in the shed that I've not used.

What kind of tires are on the front of the 9N in the original video? We had a pair of wheels and tires given to us for our 9N with the same tires. They feel solid.

Collector"s item more than anything but I"m sure could be quite useful. I have one-used it once..for no reason other than to see how it works..works great.

Not sure what the origins of the video are but my guess would somewhere in the UK due to the plate on the bottom of the front grill.

Superb! Excellent detail - thanks for that.

I thought the item would be more uncommon than it appears to be - I'd like one just cause it falls into that "neato" category.

A Jack Stand under the rail works well to adjust the height for R & R of the back tires. Limiter chains work just as well.

I used one twice a year while growing up on a small farm in Indiana. During the late Spring we would widen the front and rear wheel base so we could cultivate the soy beans and corn crops. After cultivation season, the wheels had to be returned to the narrow wheel base for general farm and eventually field preperation use.

Since I left the farm and became a grown-up, I bought a 40 acre hobby farm and my first tractor purchase was a 1952 8N. My dad no longer needed the tractor jack, so I got it. It is a great way to display the versitility of the Ford N tractors to guests at the farm.
