Tractor pulling event liability and setup

Our FFA chapter is looking at doing a small local lawn mower tractor pull.
Our supt. is being very cautious/nervous about letting us do it due to all of the potential liabilities he sees for the school district.

What all do you guys do to keep your clubs/fairs from liability.
We are looking at an event insurance policy and waivers for the contestants.
Do you have examples of waivers you could share or ideas suggestions for limiting the risks?
Do you know of other schools that are doing similar events?

The FFA at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury,Ct. has done a garden tractor pull for the last 5 or 6 years. Stone boat pull - not transfer sled. Might want to contact them. I can get you in touch with the person in charge.
