Tractor splitter

Looking at tractor splitter and the price is ridiculous.
I sat down last night at designed the track.
Look at fabrication of the leveling jacks.
Should have a working prototype by middle of August.
Going to rummage the local scrape piles.

Are you looking to split only "N's", or larger tractors, as well?

Doesn't take much to split an "N", if you are looking to do larger stuff as well, that's a whole different deal.

I've got a factory-made set that I've used on tractors up close to 200HP, they'd be nothing but in the way under an "N".

For an "N" a Harbor Freight transmission jack would work great for the rear (you could chain it to the "belly" for safety, and an simple "engine hoist"/"cherry picker works well for the front.

2 floor jacks worked for me wood wedges in the front to keep it from tipping and a rope around a rafter to the steering wheel just to be sure.

The ones I have seen - and liked the best, were a small trailer tongue jack with the wheel on the bottom. It bolts onto one side of the front of the transmission. Very simple.
It's easier to split one by blocking the front and rolling the rear half back anyway.
And the jack/wheel won't be a big contraption that eats up precious garage space.
BTW, just in case you ever get interested in some of the later Fords (as many of us have) give some thought to making it easily adaptable to the 600/800 and 2/3/4000 models too.
Oh, and whatever you do, build it better than this one. I bought this tractor down in Nebraska. Ford donated a bunch of these to High Schools and VoTechs. Anyway, some kid or kids built this splitting stand for it. You could split the engine off or the rear end off. Whoever built it wasn't a good welder though. The guy I bought it from lifted it onto my trailer with a big loader tractor so I got it home okay. But when I tried to roll it off my tilt trailer into the garage the whole frame and wheels under it collaped into a pile of scrap and the tractor fell on the floor.
The kid had good ideas but his welding wasn't up to par. LOL
I'm sure you'll do better. :)
