Tractor Trouble

I have a Ford 555A that won't move without foreplay.
I've learned to start it, let it idle for five or ten minutes, then cut the fuel off. I let it sit for five or ten, then start it back up. Usually then, by massaging the accelerator, I can get it to go. Does this kind of behavior (not mine, the tractors) make any sense?

Torque converter, tranny pump, or the shuttle valve is sticking. Have you changed the trans filter and fluid recently?

Thanks Joe, no I haven't changed the tranny fluid or filter, except to add new fluid when it gets low. I have a fluid leak, but I can't tell where. It can really squirt out when the machine is worked for awhile.

Sounds like the fluid & filter change is a good place to start.
Really should find out where that fluid is leaking from before it causes a bigger problem.
