tractor width for M

What is the most common overall width at the rear tires for a Farmall M? I am building one just wondered what the best width is, i know tire size comes into play but do you keep it as narrow as you can or ? I think i will be running 16.9x38"s. thanks in advance,Paul

paul, try it make it narrow the wider you go the more it will want to turn tords out of bounds.the weight will want to shift from one side to another maken you get more traction on that side, plus the narrow it is the more weight will be equal on both rear tires and give you more traction.....and will go straiter hope this makes sense....

I'm not sure what you're asking but I wouldn't go any bigger than 15.5's or 14.9's unless you're building up the engine quite a bit. Those big 16.9 tires will give you bite but speed you up too..and an M is pretty fast in standard low gear anyway. You'll need power to turn 'em on any decent track. Our "sorta stock" M with 13.6's and the wheels dished out and slid in pretty narrow is about 90 inches wide overall.
Yeah, I think too that it's better to run a narrow tread width pulling...at least until you've really got the tractor balanced good...even then the track can be different side to side. If you like working the brakes I guess it doesn't make much difference.

The main reason im asking is im looking at buying a new trailer and need to know approx. width so i dont buy too narrow of a trailer. Thanks Paul.
