Trade Secrets

How to paint raised letters "John Deere"

1) Sand raised letters with 400 or 600 sand paper.
2) Tape off letters, very narrow tape, can be bought at automotive paint stores. This allows for sharp turns needed for the letters. Remember you will be putting a lot of pressure on the tape at the sharp corners. This takes a lot of time to due it right.
3) You just build up tape after this then drape entire tractor.

I used a sponge, dap it in the paint, patt it on the letter, and wola, took me about 5 min and it was finished, someone told me here on the form I think. Nice job

An easier way would be to spray the yellow first then put tape on the face of the letters and then trim the tape with an exacto knife and then apply the green paint.

I used a foam brush . Put some paint in a jar lid (or something simular ) let paint set overnight uncovered. The thick paint wont run and you can dab it on with no brush marks. At the Davenport works we used camel hair brushes and foam brushes.

very nice job.. what sort of tape didyou use? Its hard to get something that won't allow the paint to bleed under it.
