Trailer recommendation

As stated in my post on Gatormade trailers, I am looking for a new gooseneck equipment trailer. Following is a list of criteria I would like to meet.

1) 25 +/- ft bed plus dovetail.
2) Folding ramps
3) Two 7k or 8k axles
4) 16" single tires
5) Self-cleaning dovetail
6) Electric/hydraulic disc brakes
7) Two front jacks
8) Winch mount

The biggest hurdle appears to be the brakes; some manufacturers will not do the disc brakes even as an upcharge.

Who would you suggest?

Thanks
Rich

I think Buckeye Trailer near Salem, Ohio will do custom builds to your specs.

I can't imagine wanting disc junk brakes. They don't last as long and more maintenance over the long haul. I would look more for out board drums so you can just pull the drum to do brakes without getting into the wheel bearings and oil bearings .Will last longer than grease bearings and easy to check. As for who and what brand I can't say. Maybe Brute trailer if they are still in business would build it for you.

Every vehicle I have has 4 wheel disc brakes and they work great, I would never go back to drum brakes on my car or truck or tractors.

You never had disc brakes on the early number series IH tractors 00.56.60 series and wanted them to work. I have more trouble with disc brakes the caliper sticks and wear out one side and have to replace .I hate them. Would put drum brakes back on if I could but would require a lot of build over for them to go on. even if changed at the ball joint.

Not going to argue with you, disc brakes do not require adjusting, they have more stopping power and are relatively easy to fix in a modern configuration. You do what you want, and I will do what I want

Back in 20, I traded a corn Pro gooseneck 20 and 5 , 15000 gvw. The ramps were to heavy, even thou they had counter balance springs. Easy to store. But a bear to fold out. Manual jack. Traded for a 27' Corn Pro. Hyd tilt, with a hyd jack. Same gvw. But with 14 ply tires. Wireless remote. Life is good. Never thought about brakes when ordered it. Oh did get a 6" higher gooseneck. ( can walk under it, and can turn and not worry about tailgate hitting.)

So what if he never had disc brakes that came on tractors 70 years ago? They are a far cry from modern disc brakes, and a completely different design.

The biggest problem people have with disc brakes is trying to re-use old rusty components to save money. I know all about it because I'm guilty of it myself. Your only mode of transportation is all torn apart in the driveway, so you use what you have, and in 6 months, you're doing it again.

You know why those drum brakes on the back of your old pickup truck lasted so long? THEY WEREN'T DOING ANYTHING! All the braking was done by the DISC brakes on the front! That's why they were always worn out and giving you trouble...

I doubt that since I have had vehicles with drum brakes all the way around and stoppe4d fine bCould even slide the wheels if need be. all my semi trucks and trailers have drum brakes and the first set on the semi I bought new had 700,000 miles on them before changing them. Get that out of junk disc brakes even on semis. not happening. As for adjustment they are and have been for over 50 years self adjusting and yes the adjusters can get stuck. those calipers will never work so they wear evenly. I don't know how many sets of brake pads I changed with only one pad shot and have to change them both and free up the junk caliper slide that doesn't slide for long. Such a piece of junk. Have had it on both GM and Ford vehicles .Buick electras in the 80's Oldsmobile also and then fords in the late 80's along with crown vics in the 2000+ years and Escape would wear one side out such a waste of time to have them on.

I just bought a PJ 25+5 on Friday. This is my second PJ trailer. A lot of people talk about the powder coat but, I never had a problem. This trailer is replacing my 2012 which is still in good shape. I do wash the trailer regularly and don't use it in the salt. PJ now uses a primer under the powder coat I was told. I would check out Best choice trailers or Fayette trailers as your in PA like me. I looked at Diamond C, PJ, and Load Trail. I picked this one for the best value as its just for my antique tractors and will be used a handful of times each year.

What is the empty weight on that trailer?

Nice trailer! I too looked at PJ and Sure Trac at Best Choice and was set to buy a Lamar from them based off price and the size I wanted. I drove 90 miles to the Carlisle location and they were absolutely awful to work with, I should have known based off the phone conversations with the salesperson. It was probably my worst dealer experience ever, glad you had a positive experience.

PJ makes a nice trailer, also worth consideration are Sure Trac and Big Tex. I have a landscaping PJ and it has held up well for me. I actually ended up buying a Big Tex 28' 14GN from a dealer in Muncy PA who was awesome. I looked it over top to bottom and the quality was far better than that of Lamar.

Thanks! I bought the trailer from Fayette Trailers. The people at Best Choice seemed hit or miss however they have a lot of trailers to look at. I also looked at Big Tex but, thought this would suit me better.

I would match my trailer tire size to my pickup so the same spare would fit both places . Just opens options on the side of the road.
