transmission drain

Just a curious question. As we all know, over time water builds up in the rear end of these old 2 cylinders. Has anybody ever put a small valve in the drain plug to drain off the water?

not in drain plug but on dads 41 b there is a brass valve in a cover by the right brake drum that I opened a while back and got several ounces of water out of it.

Had a guy bring an unstyled b to the shop with cockpit drains. It was leaking at the axle seals
Well went to drain the cocks and nothing came out and drain the rear end and about a gallon of water came out first. They are too small and stop up to drain with much effect

What if you ran over something like corn stalks breaking off the valve or opening it?

Something sticking up from the ground could open the valve or even knock it off. I know of one truck engine that was wrecked when a cornstalk flipped open the engine oil drain valve. He drove it in the field, got out and walked away leaving it idling as the oil was draining out. A truck I was driving through the corn stalks had the engine drain valve flipped open by a cornstalk. I parked the truck and shut it off not knowing the oil was draining. The stream of oil running out from under the truck alerted one of the other guys on the crew.

When I drain water out of a crankcase I loosen the plug and then unscrew it with my fingers, pressing it up into the hole all the time so I don't have a gusher. If water starts dripping I release the pressure on the plug just a bit to let the water drain out. When oil starts dripping out I screw the plug back in. It's simple as that and there's no worry about a valve opening up. Jim

What I've done a couple times is put s ball drain valve on, but plug the end of that valve with a cap or another smaller plug. That way I can remove the end, open valve, control the flow, but n othing can drain fliuds by accident.
