transmission in a 1750

oks good afternoon, call me an idiot, or what the heck are you trying this for if you don't know what your doing ? I
bought a 1750, hadn't run in 9 years, the present owner said was going down the road and it just quit going . had a
right axel leak. going to restore it. have motor out wheels off, hyd unit off, down to bear bones. in visiting with guys im
told that due to lack of lubrication the problem is the far back gear on the top shaft is seized on the shaft, ok ill take it
that the shaft is no longer usable , the remainder of the gears on that top shaft should be , my question is how do I get
the shaft out, cut it out? thanks for any help

That's how we got the 1850 apart. And then comes the cleaning of the gear case. All of it. Front and rear section.

used to work for an Oliver/Massey dealer and when we had a top shaft seizure such as you describe we would get to the point you are then tke a long shaft, in our case a junk pto drive shaft and use it from the rear with a bung of some sort against the top shaft, small enough to go through the gears and second man used sledge hammer and worked out all his frustrations on the shaft. if it wasn't absolutely welded sometimes it would work. Otherwise the fire wrench. Good luck Thanks

Lack of oil flow to the shaft. Make sure the little screen on the pump isn't clogged with snot. (and what John said, too)

Fire wrench is the quickest easiest way to get the shaft out. A complete cleaning/flushing of the tranny/rear end is a must.
