Transmission oil change

Got a quick question. What do you use to clean out where the transmission oil goes before putting in new? Bought a TO35 and want to get it maintained correctly.

Various theories on that one. difficult to do properly without tearing it down. Some add diesel to transmission and rum it a little BUT it wont do the Pump any good as there isn't much lubrication in Diesel and the Pump Pistons wear as it is in the oil so diesel wont help. Plus due to the shape of the bottom of the castings you will not get all of the diesel out. What you can safely do is change the oil but only pit the minimum amount in and run it until it does get how and then drain it, and do it again. A lot have there own pet theory how to do it but unless you tear it down you will never get it really clean, Change the oil every 12 months even if you don't use the tractor, it deteriorates just standing and absorbs water vapour, and always change it when it is hot, that way you will get more of the crud out than you will when it is only warm...John

are there any small passages in the sump that could be clogged if you loosened up the sludge?

there is a product called autorx that works very well for de sludging engines if you follow the instructions, and i am sure would work in a sump. but it is not be a great idea for heavy sludge. the problem with desludging using additives is that if there is too much sludge it will cause problems if you dissolve it into the oil.

i won't do it. when i drained my sump there was a solid mass "plug" of who knows what in the centre drain about an inch and a half thick that i had to break up with a screwdriver before anything came out. i dread to think how much sludge there is in the bottom of the sump and i have no intention of disturbing it unless i have everything apart.

I was just reading thoughts on the tranny change and it occures to me that I am running mineral oil in the tranny/hydrolic assembly. my front loader is leaking a bit and need to add more all the time. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I could change this fluid and try something other than mineral oil to make it work better

where is it leaking? isn't it cheaper to replace the fitting?

new oil is better than old dirty oil in most cases.

If tractor is working fine, I would just drain oil, work it hard, let it get good and hot, then drain overnight, will get most of the old oil out and let sludge stay where it is.

Add 8 gals of new GL1 oil from NAPA, best price I have found. About all you can do.
