Transmission Question

CRS1951

Im looking at buying a ford tractor. The owner says it has a over-under transmission. My question is what is this?
Thanks for answers.

A lot depends on what model tractor your looking at. Most are an over drive set up NOT a high low as most call them. It could be a Sherman type aux tranny or one of a few other types. The Sherman is probably the most common type and came in a number of types as in over, under and combo and then there is a number of others but those are less common

Old is correct. Without knowing which Ford tractor you're looking at, it's hard to give a definite answer to your question. My advice is to take lots of detail pictures and post them here. Also, listen carefully to the seller's explanation of "over/under" and let us know what he tells you.

With all the expertise and experience on this board and some photos to look at, the people on this board should be able to tell you just what you're looking at.
