Transmission shifter pin replacement

Is it possible to replace the shifter pin without removing the shift plate from the transmission?
How difficult is it to do in place?

It would be kind of hard to do it in place. There's a spring on the bottom of the shift lever that wants to pull the shifter into the transmission. Plus the pin is a pretty tight fit and I doubt you could brace it well enough to drive it out with a hammer. I just replaced mine since I had the cover off to change the starter button. I pressed the old one out and the new one back on. There just isn't a lot of room to work under the steering wheel and up against the dash.

You could probably do it in place but it would be easier to pull the cover - Your call. Either way, let us know how it works out for you.
