Treasures found picking rocks

Spent ten summers on my Uncles dairy farm. One year he plowed up the heifer pasture along the creek by the railroad tracks. My cousin and I were ‘volunteered’ to pick up stones. We found a horse shoe, a Cresent brand adjustable wrench, a couple arrowheads, some empty paper hull shotgun shells, and a whole lot of rocks. On the way back to the buildings I decided to walk along the tracks and over the railroad bridge. Down in the creek I saw something shiny. Took off my shoes, rolled up my jeans and waded in. Nothing but an empty beer can…phooey!

Years ago , I was going out to mow a couple acres to prepare to plant food plots
I was sitting on my 8N thinking about where to start to mow and I saw down in the field a shiny object
sticking up in the grass so I drove down to see what it was , and when I got there I was much surprised to see
a door off an Air Plane.
I remember thinking what do I do now
so I went back home and called 911 the lady I talked to said you found what
any way long story short a few days later I got a call from the FAA and they told me that they were notified that
a plane that was delivering mail for the USPS had lost a door in Pennsylvania.
and someone would be calling me to pick it up .

I guess you never know what you will find in your field.
That's wild!
More amazing that the information was connected from one party to the other.

When the Columbia wrecked, Folks were all over this area looking for wreckage.

If you were close I'd ask if I could bring my rusty Farmall Regular and plow with it. Been wanting to, but have yet to find a location. Maybe at shows this year
We are a long way from you. And my husband only plows a small patch... because our renter does not moldboard plow our land.

Going to make it up north to look for agates. 😁 Will check out roads around Cloquet too. Daughter looked there a couple years ago on the advice of another YTer... and found some.

When I was a kid we found a couple stone hammers and a number of arrowheads while picking rock. Never thought much of it at the time, but now realizing the effort it must have taken to form the groove in the stone hammer to attach the handle, it must have caused the original owner some distress to have lost it.

Went out with my Polaris ranger yesterday and picked a few loads of rocks in my corn field. Corn is up so park along edge and have plenty of candidates within 50 feet of Ranger. Found several old rusty nails, a piece of pickup truck spring, chain links and a Plastic bag from Minneapolis Moline, Hot Line Parts. Would guess it dates back to the early 70's. Anybody here remember these? What unusual have you found? Or does anybody pick rocks anymore. I cultipack my soybeans to push rocks down, but still try to pick up the big Ones. Steve.
The only thing I find is all the parts and tools I've lost over the years working the ground and harvesting the crops off them.

My Grampa would come over and work ground for a few hours every year. We had a new 1066, anyway he lost his wallet one year, no cab. I think it was the next here he was doing the same and stopped on the end and was looking at the digger and saw something stuck on a tooth. It was his wallet a little worse for wear, the money was enough intact that he took it to a bank and got it replaced.

I once found a fiberglass handled 8 pound splitting maul. I learned how to split with it, but I had the wood backwards in the beginning (top up) and ended up blowing the outer casing of the handle up hammering on forked pieces the wrong way. Now I have a nice new one, and use the old one for random "I need something to smack this with" jobs.

My most recent find - widening the lawn a bit, I came across a pool ball. IIRC, it's a 7.

We were paid a dollar a tractor box (3pt hitch carryall) as kids. One hill on the farm was covered with clay pipe pieces, where they broke the mouth end off when they got plugged, also found a cannon ball there. We suspect it was a colonial tavern site. Arrow heads stone axes, grinding stones. US cavalry harness button, probably army surplus from the civil war. Clay marbles.
