Hello Men-

Question:
I need to bury some waterline. I was going to rent a Ditch Witch, but... I have a 9n! And New Holland dealer is down the road with a trencher to rent. Will a 3 point hitch "trencher" work *well* behind a 9N?

Thanks alot!

It probably would as I've run trenchers with less Hp than an N.That being said,I would also call or stop by and ask them about speed and Hp requirements.Unless you live in the "frozen wastelands",where the water has to be deep, you can get pretty deep with a middle buster or sub-soiler.---lha

Probably not. The 9N does not have position control on the lift (unless you have the Zane Thang). It cannot raise its hitch unless the PTO is turning. Unless the trencher is made specifically for an N tractor (with a separate clutch for the chain digger) then it will be a huge problem. And the low gear of the 9N tranny is still way too fast for a trencher.

I'd be looking at other options.

Yea, that makes sense.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Guess I will check out my plow options.

Appreciate the help!

No the trencher won't get it done on an N. Here in central MD - just outside D.C. - water lines have to be a minimum of 30" deep. I'd suggest you rent yourself a nice backhoe. The going rate here for a 4WD Case 580M with heated cab is $240 per day. You can dig a lot of water line in 8 hours with it. Use the N to close the trench when you are done. The down side to a machine like that is once you're done with it the N won't be nearly as appealing....

HA! I bet.

As long as I can incorporate the N into the project I guess I will be happy!
Maybe even riding over the replaced dirt after the job is done to "pack" down the dirt!!!

Thanks again!
