Does anyone know if the gentleman with the triple 830's (late part of video) was a Don Dufner ?? Spelling??
Years ago when I gave Electrical Seminars and Workshops at Gathering of the Green I had supper with that man and the late Duane Larson. I remember Don ?? telling about having bought up almost allllllll of the old stock pistons and sleeves for 830 and 820/s. Seems like he only had a double 820/830 at that time, been too long I forget.......

Don is an amazing and creative guy. He was always looking for more power which to him meant the ability to get more fieldwork done in a shorter time. He always liked two-cylinder Deeres, and he started buying them (cheaply) by the dozens after the New Generation tractors were launched and when nobody wanted those old outdated tractors anymore. But getting more power meant adding more power units to an assembly. Here's a picture taken back around 1990 of another of his creations. The caption states that it is comprised of an 830 in front of an A and D combination (notice the belt pulley of the transverse engine that back-drives through the PTO of the bottom unit via a large pulley on the bottom PTO shaft) and that they used this rig for 16 years pulling a 10-16 tandem plow... More power cheaply!!!

Somewhere I remember that one(?) of his sons works for John Deere. I have been to his farm southeast of Buxton, North Dakota. The farmyard is full of old 2 Cylinder John Deere tractors, many connected to and dedicated to a particular implement. I attended one of his seminars at GOG (maybe the same one you were at John T) and he talked about coupling a 10 HP Briggs and Stratton engine to the flywheel of a John Deere A for more plowing power, but it didn't last long because the Briggs burned up because its air cooling wasn't enough for that application.

He had the 830-830-830 at a 2 Cylinder Expo some years ago.

Yes the 100 Years of Horsepower is from the link that John T posted. It's located near Belleville, IL The
Renner Stock Farm is the site. Tom Renner also has the John Deere dealership located close by at Shiloh, IL A granddaughter on mine was at that show along with her school class.

Don is very involved in our 2 cylinder club-Agassiz Valley 2 Cylinder Club. Easy to talk to with a mountain of knowledge. His son Dan no longer works for mother Deere.

Ron, you are correct about the source of that picture as well as your other recollections. As Sleufoot mentioned, Don's son Dan was an engineer for Deere and had worked his way rather high up on the ladder, but is no longer with Deere as of 2000.
