trouble in starting

i have the negative cable on and when i attach the positive cable the tractor turns over with out the key on and the cable gets hot and smokes ,what would cause this .

If it has a solenoid, either the key switch is stuck closed or miswired or the solenoid is stuck closed or mis-wired. If it has a tansmission lever actuated starter switch, that"s stuck closed.

Your cable may be too small and the high reistance with the high current draw will cause the cable to get hot. You should be using large cables (not automobile cables) to the starter.

You should check the wiring with a diagram or it could go up in smoke. If you need a diagram, just email me. Just tell me if it has a Generator or an Alternator and if the Alternator has one or two [email protected]

cable hot and smoking because it grounding to frame somewhere, short in switch or solenoid,or starter screwed [doubtful on starter]since its turning over
