My son worked there for a while. There's a store manager and a district manager. The store manager has some control over his or her store, but ultimately answers to the district manager at some point.
Around me all those places got through help like @hit through a tin horn! You never see the same fellow twice!

My biggest complaint about these stores, or retailers in general is their websites. I like to be able to go on to a company's website and check to see if they even stock what I am looking for. I live an hour from anything. I also live an hour from everything. Problem is that its not all in the same direction. If I need whatever little bit today, I like to be able to make an educated guess as to which store might have it in stock. I understand they can't have a live inventory, but some of their websites really don't convey if the item is even sold in stores. Many have jumped on the third party reseller wagon and have all manner of stuff listed, when its not something carried in their stores.

If I don't need that little bit today, there is a good chance I will just order it anyway as the cities that are an hour away are greedy with their local sales taxes. Anything that I can have shipped saves me 4% on tax.
I will call a local big box or farm store and ask if they have an item. They will ask if I checked online. I say yes, now I need you to go look to see if you actually have it in the shelf before I drive to town. Been frustrated too many times. Mostly they do it cheerfully was which I appreciate.

I agree TSC was good when farms were mostly a ¼ or a ½ section. Whether a small time operation on up did most repairs themselves. Now most guys just use the dealer for parts.

Our local TSC has had many of the same employees for several years. I check their inventory online before I go there looking for something and it is correct 99% of the time. For all the monthly threads pi$$in and moanin about the store you'd think they'd be out of business by now but my guess is that they carry what sells and keeps the doors open no matter how many people stomp their feet and pound their fists because they don't have the same inventory they had in 1962.

I think once you hit a certain age you start looking for things to B&M about. Also seems the silliest little things trigger you.

@60 I haven't gotten there yet, and hope I never do.

Best just to check the app to see what they have. On the other hand I am amazed at what a general internet search will turn up for the obscure parts many of us need. It is amazing what Amazon has it is not all cheap Chinese junk either. EBay is another source for new and used. I can get most any part for my 34 year old truck from many online sources. 100 year old tractors too.

I am, and all they're doing is changing with the market. Pretty smart way to do business.
They have branched out too. Local Pet Sense store now has an addition to the store sign, Tractor Supply (or TSC not sure). Apparently the pet care business is so good TSC decided to buy a brand.
