TSC strikes again?

I went to TSC today to get a 5 gallon bucket of 10W-30.
None available. In its place? RV antifreeze.
Oil is about the only thing I buy there and it looks like they
may not be carrying that anymore. Maybe its temporary.

I would have asked the manager, but he was playing with a dog
at the front of the one checkout line that was open. There
were only 11 people in line. No need to open another register.

Ok, rant over. They still had 2 gallon jugs if I really needed it.
Of course it costs more that way.

BTW, there was a Ferrari in the parking lot.
That gave me a chuckle.
I wondered how many tractors they had pulled with it.

I do not think all their stores operate like that,
The local store in Murray, KY, attendants are always helpful,

However, there is an Orchelins farm store about 1 block down the road, so they have some major competition.

It appears we are neighbors. I usually shop at the TSC in Mayfield.

TSC is building a new store 1/2 mile from my house. the one I have to use is 16 miles away. I look forward to it but have to wonder how well it will do here in "yuppieville"???

I have noticed that the store in Quakertown, pa is stocked the same as the store in mansfile, pa. 200 miles away. prices are same too. at least for the items I would buy at either store.

Around here, Rural King is killing TSC.

There are.. lets see.. 5 stores within a 35 mile drive, 2 of those within 15m and one of those within 20m.

there is a SINGLE rural king that is located accross the street from one of the 15m drive TSC's That tsc is a ghost town, and I see other people I know that drive in ( some from the location of the far north store that are really doing about 45m drives, and still going to RK, and saving money.

Their feed and bulk oil prices crush TSC.

If you have a RK in your area, check them out.

I wonder if you had let them know a week in advance that you were going to pick up a 5 gallon
container of oil, would they have had made sure it was in stock.

Think of the price of keeping one of everything in stock.

Lately, I have been ordering many things online for store pickup. I still roam the store, filling
my cart with things I don't need but what I do order is there waiting for me.

That has also been my experience. Maybe they should consider a name change to PFS, PET FOOD SUPPLY, that is about all I see going out of the store near me.
ALWAYS a line at the checkout...

I did manage to buy a top link $41 and an over running clutch for $80 for my "new" bush hog there(after reading all the stern warnings here)but upon arrival home there was no spring pin on it. But the 8N gods relented and of the 3 I have had in my tool box for the last 35 years, one fit. Then I got too close to an overgrow barb wire fence and spent two hours trying to cut wires.

I to like rural King,
I ALWAYS VISIT THEIR store when I am in town, but as others have said the closest RK is 50+ miles away and the TSC is 7 miles .

they seem to be a yard tool sales place here. and the people that like to buy 1 bag of feed at a time, for like a couple backyard chickens, or a pleasure horse you go see once a week at the place you are having it stabled because you don't own enough land to justify having a horse.. etc.

Hope this is not true, as I just started buying 5 gallons of the Traveller oil at a time to use in pretty much every gas burning vehicle and tractor. I checked their web site,
and shows it is available, and price appears to have gone down about $5, and I use farm tax exemption so no sales tax.

wellmax99, It's a small world. I lived in Calloway for over 30 years, but recently moved to Marshall Co. I'm sure we have run into each other at some point.

"Hope this is not true, as I just started buying 5 gallons of the Traveller oil"

I don't know if it's everywhere or just my local store, but they
sure didn't have any when I was there. They had other weights,
and other brands, but not 10W-30. Hopefully it is temporary.

Unfortunately no Rural King in my area.

Walmart across the road stocks it in 5 gallon cans. Costs more.
I wouldn't think I'd have to order it at a "tractor" supply store.
Its a common consumable.

I live about 1 Mile north west of Hazel

Motto of hazel antique stores: antiques made while you wait!

Short distance from TN line where I could be living and paying no state tax.

when I go to the TSC if there is oil there I use I by a couple of containers whether or not I need it. . seems like the oil for the old machines goes out as soon as it comes in. but yeah you'd think 10/30 would be on the floor.

Just received a 10 percent off coupon in the mail, so I think I may go down to the local store and check it out. I can always use the oil, and for roughly $40 for 5
gallons and no sales tax, it cannot be beat. Arguably just as good as the name brand in my mind, and a lot less expensive (at one time I would have disagreed, but been
running the Warren Oils for years and not an issue so far). I drive 100 miles a day on my daily driver, so I am changing fairly often on that one.

Agreed. get it when it's available or cheap.

I was in rural king late last year or early this year and they had a sale on their 15w40 in 2.5g big-jugs. It was one of those 1-day 'flash sales' they often do to get people in the door.

I think I bought 6 containers, and my wife called me and had bought 4 more when she went thru their that night to get a spare horse halter.

Fast forward to now. I have not had to by oil yet, and still have maybee 2 of them jugs left. I don't recall the price, but it was cheaper to buy (2) 2.5g jugs vs (1) 5g pail, by a few bucks... enough to make it worth it. plus easier to pour.

Went to TSC yesterday for chicken feed. Because I had a 10% off coupon, I walked over to the oil section to see if hydraulic fluid was on sale. (it wasn't) While I was there, I noticed a small bottle of Star Tron (my latest fuel additive choice) w/ a sticker price of $17.99. That reminded me to buy a bottle.......not at TSC, but from the auto store next door at $8.99. Less the usual 10% military discount.

(quoted from post at 17:16:25 11/04/15) Cal Ranch killing TSC in my neighborhood. No one on the sales floor at TSC to answer a question but the check out girl is cute.

i don't have any realistic competition for TSC where i am. i buy stuff from rural king regularly, and have it shipped. i suspect buying oil this way would not be cost-effective.

the TSC near me has employees which can usually be found, and are quite helpful. cute cashiers are an underrated bonus :)
