tuning carb, ignition , timing

We use a timing light for ignition. Watch the exhaust and listen to what the tractor is telling you for carb adjustments. Tried the 02 sensor deal one time but didn't get consistent results. Watching it pull down the track will tell a lot about how it is tuned.

@MSD used to pull with an old boy here in SW Iowa that was deaf and mute, walked with two canes too, he ran a G JD and built and tuned it all himself. I asked him one day, through sign which I am poor at and writing, how he did it, he said feel, and smell, seen him shake his head on more than one hook and come back around hobble down off it and tweak the carb! Amazing man, Ralph Dado, may he rest in piece!

I don't really remember him. When you started talking about an old boy from Iowa I thought you was talking about Big Tee. Haven't seen or heard much from him lately. I think after he came up to one of our pulls and I put it to him each time we pulled together that he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. LOL

I find the timing light ( advance auto change ) quite useful with the rpm Feature. Pulling at natpa, to make changes ,where the rpm is ten percent over rated rpm.
o2 would be nice with air fuel ratio , on dyno at the pull , does your club have a dyno like our does , oops they did ! Last time I went they did .awhile ago .

if you are on the dyno youare probley all hooked up with everything already
I ran across an old M&W dyno that had "issues" and I got it for a hundred bucks, The cooling tubes had frozen and broke, and the gauge/dial didn't work, but, it would crank down the engines of our tractors when you put the screws to it. We had to judge everything by ear but that sufficed for us. gm

how many of the pullers still have the pto shaft still in the tractor anyways , time on a wheel dyno is very expensive

not sure who Big Tee is and I said the wrong brothers name, the one that was deaf was Robert, Ralph pulled some too, I dont think he got out of SW Iowa much, the furthest he went was the state fair and one year I think he went to dedham iowa when we did a combined pull with Iowa Central guys, cant remember for sure about that one, that day was a blur, drove back from wisconsin late the night before, my great uncle's funeral, then flew to dedham the next morning
