Has anyone tried a turbo On a late B? Any guesses on what the HP gain would be?

with the hit and miss of the JD engine, a turbocharger would be hard to make work well since it needs exhaust pressure to spin it properly. If you want to boost a JD engine, a small centrifugal supercharger would be the most likely part to use.

Use a Whipple supercharger from a 3800 Buick.

There was one in Green magazine a few months back. I think the guy had a belly mower on it and wanted a little more hp to get through the tall spots. Said it worked good. Maybe someone will remember what issue it was and you can order a back issue. Or try their website message board.

turbos dont work worth a darn for antiques in speed limit classes. the less cylinders and rpms you have, the worse they are

About a year or so ago there was an article in Green Magazine where a guy put a turbo on a model A. Because of how the two cylinders pull their intake charges so close to each other he used an old propane tank as an expansion chamber to give the extra air somewhere to go while the engine made its other strokes and to smooth out the operation of the turbo. I don't remember exact numbers but I'm wanting to say that he ran it all the way up to 24 pounds of boost before he hurt any of the bottom end. No dyno readings were sited but I think he claimed that around 19 pounds it would pull a loaded feed wagon up a hill on their ranch better than their 100 horse work tractor would.
